This is a California Heights Craftsman xeriscape Type: California Heights Craftsman Xeriscape The California Heights Craftsman Xeriscape by California Eco Design, Inc. ◊ See more: Eco-Friendly Landscaping at Home: 12 Essential Tips This , situated in the heart of Long Beach, was a design effort incorporating two very important goals; water conservation and the celebration of the local California landscape. It boasts a well-planned collection of low-water-use species, such as succulents, ornamental grasses, and colorful flowering perennials. They were thoughtfully placed around a beautiful flagstone path made out of stone from a local quarry to match the home's Arts & Crafts style architecture. Not only does the pathway help increase the aesthetic of the house, but it also serves as a great path through the dense, green home garden. The sloped terrain was one of the most significant challenges confronted by this , with modification of drainage to enhance drainage while preventing erosion. We remedied this by creating bio-swales and placing boulders throughout the property, which provides both function and beauty, directing rainwater to the roots and reducing runoff and bringing water to the roots of our plnats. We also used permeable pavers for the driveway to allow for rainwater to penetrate to the plant roots below while also helping to reduce the heat-island effect. What I ended up with is a visually pleasing garden that also promotes sustainability. The thrilled homeowner reported being very pleased with the aesthetics of the new design and how the Xeriscape enhances their outdoor living space in addition to saving water.
