About This Project

A Shady Retreat A Southern Gardener URL Tucked away in the center of Grosse Pointe, yet far away from the hustle and bustle that comes with it, this garden we call 'A Shady Retreat' is a beautiful backyard landscaping by A Southern Gardener, offering a peaceful escape to find serenity and delight in outdoor living. This is a custom fit for an appreciation of artistry and functionality for a Grosse Pointe Farms client. At the centre of the retreat is a colourd cedar wood pergola that is designed to dazzle the eye as it provides plenty of shade for outdoor dining, lounging and relaxing. We populated the area around the pergola with a mixture of shade plants like ferns, hostas, and hydrangeas, which boast thick foliage and colorful flowers. Branches of river rock pathways are not only strategic to direct the visitors, they also filled the texture and contrast of the dump verdant leaves. Our next challenge was our uneven back yard which was difficult to work into a cohesive design. We carefully leveled the space and filled it with quality topsoil to facilitate drainage and a solid base for the plantings. Giving such attention to detail has enabled us to create a vibrant, growing garden that works in harmony with the design of the existing home. The end result is a knockout retreat space that beckons relaxation and refreshment. The end client is really delighted with the , they stated that the natural elements integrated into the as if they were always there and even the elements that were part of our vision for the were perfectly executed. As much as it is a space to explore the new, A Shady Retreat represents the quality, craftsmanship, and service that A Southern Gardener has provided Grosse Pointe and surrounding neighborhoods, making it a true outdoor getaway.
