Contemporary Addition + Restoration to 1918 Arts and Crafts Home in Old Irving Park Chicago Concept design for landscaping transformation of an OLD IRVING PARK CHICAGO RESIDENCE by Anne Roberts Gardens, Inc. This lively outdoor space was created to enrich the property and be peaceful for the homeowners. To start off, our team evaluated the problems associated with the character of the existing landscape, such as the sloping sites and areas of deep shadow. To tackle these challenges, we created a tiered design that incorporates handcrafted natural stone with steel reinforced retaining walls creating a beautiful yet stable solution. The includes a diverse selection of native plantings that prosper in the climate, promoting sustainability and low maintenance. Broad sweeps of verdant perennials, grasses, and annuals were used together to provide colorful interest in all seasons. Large bluestone patio for entertaining, with a unique custom fire pit and seating to create additional gathering space, for a seamless outdoor living experience. Furthermore, besides the aesthetic improvement, we have also implemented environmentally conscious practices by installing a rain garden intended to process stormwater runoff. The treatment of stormwater runoff is both a new layer of depositional pattern module but also visually dynamic as a partially functioning part of the landscape. The end result was a stunning garden retreat that our clients love, giving them the best of both worlds in terms of beauty, functionality, and sustainability.
