The Old Irving Park Residence is a recent from us that embodies this dedication to craftsmanship and creativity. This residential landscape, located in the heart of Old Irving Park, was seeking a design that would complement the classic architecture of the home, yet was a blank canvas for the many needs the home would have. Our process starts with a comprehensive site analysis, understanding the strength of site & the site requirements of the homeowners. We began the with the installation of an onsite-cut stone path made of locally-sourced bluestone that greets visitors and draws them through a growing array of native landscape plants. It provides an ageless appeal and secondly, supports local biodiversity! The planting scheme has been carefully created to give year-round interest with a diversity of perennials, ornamental grasses and flowering shrubs to provide seasonal highlights of colour. The property had some steep ground and one of the biggest challenges we faced. In response to this, we built a series of terraced beds, using retaining walls of natural stone that fit the landscape well. It not only solved the drainage but also delineated various planting spaces that break up the yard visually. The centers around the private fire pit area, which is flanked by plush seating and softscape. The reclaimed brick fire pit, located near the patio, acts as a gathering spot for family and friends on warm Chicago summer nights for entertaining. This space is complemented with low-voltage lighting to accent the plant life around both spaces while creating a warm glow after dark. The result is an aesthetically pleasing and practical landscape that the homeowners hope will increase the value of their home in the long run. While our clients were ecstatic with their new home, who couldn't blame them, they praised how the new design integrates into their lifestyle, as well as the neighborhood.
