About This Project

The Matisse Inspired Small Bath project transformed a compact family room bath into a stylish master bath, while also reconfiguring the adjoining family room into a serene main floor master bedroom. The design focused on enhancing accessibility, a critical aspect for the homeowners. Although the bath's footprint was only slightly expanded, the elimination of a second entry door created a more open and inviting atmosphere. The design emphasized simplicity, allowing for a cohesive flow between spaces. A standout feature of the bath is the open, curbless shower, elegantly enclosed with a fixed glass splash panel that visually expands the area, creating an illusion of greater space while providing modern functionality. The shower's design is complemented by a small, single sink vanity featuring a banjo-style countertop that gracefully extends over the bidet and toilet combination, optimizing usability without compromising on style. The true inspiration for the space came from the clients' passion for art, specifically the vibrant cut-outs of Henri Matisse. This artistic influence was cleverly incorporated into the project through a decorative frieze that encircles the room, reflecting Matisse's playful use of color and form. The frieze adds a unique touch, transforming the bath into a personalized sanctuary that resonates with the homeowners' aesthetic values. The choice of materials and craftsmanship throughout the project underscores a commitment to quality and design integrity.
