Urban Backyard by Zach's Lawn & Landscaping In the heart of a thriving neighborhood, Zach's Lawn & Landscaping's 'Urban Backyard' created a typical urban yard and turned it into a beautiful sanctuary. This was located in Fairway, Kansas City, and Leawood and aimed to increase functionality and beauty. The 's first step was site analysis to recognize the challenges of the urban space including limited space and pre-existing drainage issues. Our team chose durable, low-maintenance materials that would fit with the landscape of the natural environment and retain quality. Some of the critical features of Urban Backyard include the wooden pergola, which provides shade and serves as a centerpiece to the homeowner's outdoor entertainment, and the native plants and perennials that were chosen because of their durability and climactic resilience. We developed a fire pit area, using natural stone pavers to create a cozy seating area for cool evenings. One of the biggest challenges in this was the sloped backyard space. To counteract this issue, we developed tiered garden beds that added separation between the client’s outdoor spaces while creating drainage and access for watering. The team creatively devised these elements while still achieving coherence in the overall space. The final outcome was a stunning urban space that satisfied the client. The Urban Backyard is now a multi-use space for entertaining, relaxing, gardening, and it added overall beauty to the home.
