Silver Lake Silver Lining

Summary: Silver Lake Silver Lining Silver Lake is the site of "Silver Lake Silver Lining" by Lorax Design Group, an affirmation of our designs that transform outdoor spaces into peaceful retreats. The "Silver Lake Silver Lining" serves the neighboring communities of Fairway, Kansas City, Lake Quivira, Leawood, as well as surrounding areas. We took this as an opportunity to showcase our creativity and talent in landscape design. The design echoes the natural topography surrounding the site, incorporating native plants into the built environment. Designing with nature in mind allowed us to use low-maintenance plants that enrich the local ecology. Although it grew to be a stunning selection of native perennial flowering plants and ornamental grasses that dance in the wind, pooling color throughout the seasons, we had to balance the overall garden composition. The site presented two challenges. The site was not even, and it was tricky to install bed borders on the steep slopes. The Terraced Gardens allowed us to gain a little bit of altitude; even with boulders bedridden with dirt, bark mulch was used throughout other portions of the site. The limestone boulders are a cool, unique look, and we probably saturated the upper garden. The limestone boulders provide significant stability on sloped areas and enhanced architecture. A pathway of custom stone zigzags the length of the site into and through each functional zone. We enjoy connecting the site into and to functional spaces, such as moving a pad of reclaimed wood that rests in a trimmed garden bed to create a tiered fire pit space, outfitted with furniture to encourage gathering under the stars. Water managing changed the entire design strategy for the . We installed a more complex rain garden to manage and capture runoff to enrich soil and create a unique item in the garden. Part of this included more decorative materials, using permeable pavers for the driveway, a nod toward an elegant look while separating materials for drainage. The output is an amazing environment for the clients. "Silver Lake Silver Lining" is truly a work of art for Lorax Design Group and confirms the saying that landscapes blend art and nature, and every landscape can be a blend of both.
