Healing Garden by Landscape Workshop Located in the center of Lexington, the Healing Garden by Landscape Workshop exemplifies the changes inherent in nature. With its service to the diverse citizens of Lexington, Lexington-Fayette, Georgetown, and beyond, the Healing Garden was thoughtfully envisioned to be a respite of calm, health, and wellness. The Healing Garden incorporates a diverse plant palette of native plants that were intentionally chosen for their therapeutic effects and low maintenance attributes. We placed calming water features, including a stream that flowed softly and a pond that lay still, to create a peaceful atmosphere and attract local wildlife. The walkways throughout the garden are made from locally sourced stone, ensuring longevity and eco-friendliness, while allowing for a natural rhythm through each unique portion of the garden. Most of the difficulties on this stemmed from the poor grading that existed on the site and determined what feasible alterations were made to help with accessibility and quality of the garden experience. Our team of talented horticulturists executed a terraced arrangement that addressed these concerns, but what it also did was create small indiviualized sections throughout the garden that encouraged some peace, contemplation, and inner relationship with nature. It was a brilliant stroke to utilize natural boulders as seating for contemplation and then reclaimed lumber for more modern seating. The combination of the natural boulders, and reclaimed lumber was a methodological enhancement to the garden's overall experience. The end result is a beautiful space that captivated our client's vision. From the pleasant scents of lavender and chamomile, to the low maintenance variety of colors from the seasonal flowers, one is completely enveloped in the healing experience of this garden. The Healing Garden not only enhances the landscape, it provides a vital space for community meeting, mindfulness, and self-reflection.
