Juanita Residence Waterfront The Watershed Company has the pleasure of sharing the Juanita Residence Waterfront , a gorgeous transformation that seamlessly combines natural beauty with functional outdoor living. Located along the beautiful shores of Lake Washington in Western Washington state, the was a culmination of our commitment to quality craftsmanship, ecological integrity, and respect for the environment. The team experienced several challenges, including a steep slope and existing erosion problems threatening the integrity of the property. We worked through both of those challenges by implementing a series of well-designed retaining walls using natural stone, which provided an aesthetic and reliable functionality. The walls added stability in containing the soils and allowed for specific, multi-level, terrace-like spaces that beckoned the user to explore and enjoy the views while at the same time creating a buffer between the back yard and the waterfront. Incorporating native vegetation was also critical to the landscape design, to ensure that the landscape would thrive. We designed a very colorful, low-maintenance, perennial, ornamental grass and shrub palette that was integrated amongst the spaces to frame the views and also add year-round interest in the landscape. Pathways were designed using permeable paving stones, which, as well as connecting the spaces, would provide sustainable drainage while minimizing runoff and improving the overall permeable landscape. The central feature of the was a well-designed deck that cantilevers over the water's edge. The deck made for an exceptional place for the owners to relax or host gatherings with family and friends. The deck was built with sustainably sourced timbers, which engaged the surrounding environment becoming a warm and inviting place to watch sunsets or enjoy coffee coordinating with the water's edge. The final product was an absolute oasis that exceeded the client's deep desires while enhancing the natural beauty. Both the thoughtful design and quality materials of the larger space delivered a renewed, functional, and amazing outdoor space that the clients now delight in, which was also strategically designed to be ecologically stable and aesthetically eye-catching.
