Background: Winchester, MA - Formal Front Entry Sallie Hill Design, Landscape Architect, is delighted to say that the "Winchester, MA - Formal Front Entry" is a lovely mix of beauty and function. This was to re-imagine the home's entry area to be a stately and welcoming invitation for the homeowner's guests and improve curb appeal. The design has freshly manicured boxwood hedges framing the path, giving the design a classic formality often associated with formal gardens. The design also includes colorful seasonal flower beds and various perennials and annuals that were selected specifically for their diversity and durability, making sure there was color throughout the entire year (in New England). A beautiful bluestone paver walkway gives durability and aesthetic contrast to the green landscape. One major challenge for this was the slope of the property. We explored ways to introduce tiered levels with retaining walls out of natural stone to ensure a safe and inviting transition from the driveway to the front entry. The addition of these walls also gave the space visual depth and dimension. Select LED light fixtures were placed to light the path and accent the architectural of the entry. Lighting nicely encased the space, allowing the area to be welcoming after darkness fell. The end result is a wonderful union of nature and design that performed beyond the client's expectations. The transformation will give homeowners a beautiful feature to admire, adding value to the home and creating a memorable experience for guests as they arrive.
