The 'Pergola and Formal Gardens', designed by Land Architects, Inc. in the heart of Ann Arbor This elegant landscape enhancement brings together refined aesthetics and the sumptuous setting of nature, fashioned into an outdoor escape. A beautiful cedar pergola with lots of lattice designed for rain at the heart of the , a cedar pergola with a weather resistant finish. This anchor and function structure with dappled sunlight to filter through, acts as shade and/or a site for any type of outdoor use. We constructed formal gardens around the pergola consisting of plant beds full of perennials ornamental grasses and seasonal flowers sited in a symmetrical arrangement that defines the space while creating a sense of elegance. Beyond looks, trees are chosen for shade or local diversity. The site has a quite low, high and hume topography which was one of the biggest challenges we had to face. To combat this, our talented team installed a graduated series of terraced garden beds, providing ideal drainage and soil retention while also creating a unique landscape feature. Our other element was a custom stone pathway, hand-placed, to provide visitors a sense of connectivity and mobility through the gardens utilizing locally-sourced bluestone. The end product is a practical yet beautiful space in which clients can kick back among thriving plants or host guests in a warm ambience. The Pergola and Formal Gardens certainly enhanced the property curb appeal and provided the clients new serene outdoor space which they happily embraced.
