The 'Gravel Garden and Grasses' Concept Although we are based out of a Detroit suburb, we travelled to the heart of Ann Arbor to capture our most recent , which represents innovative design and sustainable landscaping. This garden dons a low-maintenance combination of gravel paths and ornamental grasses that makes for a striking multilayered structure. Site analysis was the first step in the process to comprehend the soil types and drainage behaviors, which became a challenge at first. With the goal of strengthening them with little reliance on human intervention, we chose quality gravel sourced from just 30 miles away from where we lived, and drought-resistant grasses to beautify them, while preparing them to withstand the unpredictable cycle of Michigan weather. The diverse selection of plants, such as feather reed grass and blue fescue, offers texture and motion, making for a living canvas over the seasons. We created our meandering pathways, promoting exploration and natural drainage (which is vital due to the heavy rainfall that Maramatanga can get at times). Combining these elements gives us an eco-friendly garden that requires minimal water and maintenance and aligns perfectly to our clients brief for providing an attractive and sustainable garden retreat. Our Client was thrilled with the end result, a secluded escape from home that connects you to the natural environment around it!
