Coastal - Ocean View, San Juan Capistrano The Coastal - Ocean View in San Juan Capistrano was completed by My Garden: Landscape Design by Wayne. This is a beautiful example of how great landscaping can enhance the natural beauty of a property and create an outdoor experience for our clients. This client lived on a hillside and had amazing views of the Pacific Ocean. The goal was to bring life to a sloped, under-utilized area of the property by creating a coastal garden. My Garden: Landscape Design by Wayne carefully designed and implemented a multi-tiered garden comprised of drought-resistant native plants that can thrive in Southern California. We mingled local stone with the newly formed terraces to fortify the slope, and to coordinate beautifully with the landscape. Water was a requirement for our clients, and we added a soft, natural waterfall to a peaceful water feature to help soothe the senses as well as to draw local wildlife. One of the major challenges we had to manage was drainage on the slope to assist in preventing erosion, maintaining the aesthetic of the garden, and keeping the property dry. We accomplished this by installing a drainage system that was minimally invasive to the overall design of the landscape while installing a fence to help alleviate erosion. Finally, we installed a large series of decks made of sustainably harvested hardwood that took in the views of the ocean, were built for entertaining, and beautifully fit into the vision of a coastal garden. Ambient lighting was also included to highlight the lush plantings in the garden and create a magical evening ambiance in the garden. In the end, we left the client with a stunning coastal retreat that left them excited their home, a place for beauty, utility, and sustainability. The greatly enhanced the value of their property, but more importantly, we altered their outdoor experience into a perfect setting for relaxation and gatherings.
