Located in beautiful Michiana Shores, the corner lot was designed for aesthetics and function and was meant to be beautiful and to offer outdoor spaces for relaxation and entertaining. The began with a thorough site analysis to assess the challenges related to the existing topography and vegetation. Our team was faced with the challenge of keeping the property’s natural contours and assessing its primary concern of drainage and soil viability. Careful consideration was given to choosing native plants and hardy materials that would be low maintenance and resilient to the local climate. We were particularly pleased to implement a custom patio using local bluestone that visually contrasted beautifully against the vibrant greenery. This outdoor living space seamlessly joins a custom built pergola made of cedar which provides a shady and cozy gathering space for family and friends. We also included a variety of species of native shrubbery and perennial species that bloom in various scenic views each season providing a visual tapestry of color and texture. As a solution to the challenge of uneven surface, we created a series of tiered garden beds made of reclaimed wood to create a visual interest and retain moisture and soil thereby enhancing plant viability. Additionally, we included an irrigation system to provide for consistent hydration throughout the corners and surfaces of the lot. The careful attention to detail on plant selections and irrigation ensures a thriving green healthy and luscious landscape. The final product resulted in a beautiful outdoor oasis that incorporated Michiana’s natural beauty, enhancing neutral experience of the property. The client remarked on how their property was transformed because the landscape produced a living space for their lifestyle to live together with beauty and utility.
