Stairway to Heaven The 'Stairway to Heaven' delivered by VIVID Landscape & Lighting transformed a hilly lot in the suburbs into an inspiring oasis where the beauty of nature meets the beauty of design. Located in Newburgh, this extensive landscaping was meant to design a functional yet aesthetically inviting outdoor area that became a destination for the homeowners. A premier piece of this is the impressive stone staircase that was painstakingly built out of locally sourced bluestone. The staircase climbs elegantly through tiers of lush gardens. Each step is flanked by colorful perennial plantings of lavender, daylilies, and ornamental grasses selected for their loveliness and their ability to thrive in the local climate. The choice of materials was carefully considered to ensure longevity and compatibility with the site. Challenges of this included the steep grade of the yard, which required solutions for various factors. The crew from VIVID designed and constructed the retaining walls out of natural boulders that provided erosion resistance, while developing defined planting beds that add dimension and texture. Additionally, VIVID added a drip irrigation system to maintain the diversity of plantings with little or no maintenance. An ambient light system was installed to highlight the stairs and surrounding planting at night, creating a welcoming atmosphere along the path. In the final design, an intimate seating area was also integrated into the top of the staircase with spectacular views of the yard perfect for remote socializing or just relaxing. This resulted in an incredible transformation that truly exceeded the goals of the client. They now have a serene outdoor experience that they can enjoy any time of the year.
