Set in the beautiful town of Wellesley, this landscape design incorporated contemporary design elements into an established historic home in an urban context. In our landscaping design process, our team always starts with an in-depth site analysis. This allowed us to understand the site's contours and unique features. Our design focus was to create an inviting landscape to accentuate the architecture of the historic home while creating functional outdoor living spaces. We decided to use high-quality natural stone for the main pathways and to use native plant material, which is not only attractive, provides functionality, but also is supportive of the regional wildlife. We ensured the pathways were lined with plant material that would provide beauty throughout the seasons and low maintenance for the homeowner. In the back garden, we incorporated a multi-tiered garden plan with colorful perennials and shrubs based on their seasonal bloom and low maintenance. As the main focus for gatherings, we built a custom stone patio incorporating reclaimed stone into the design for the fire pit so the family could enjoy a warm, cozy space outside under the stars as a family. In order to provide privacy, for the family and general use, we created a living hedge boundary that not only provide privacy, but also creates a peaceful experience in the space. Our goal was to use materials and plants that would be sustainable for the location and comply with the desire to create a peaceful space. What was the result? A successfully-designed and flourishing landscape that ties beautifully into the Benjamin Fitch house and they created a landscape that the homeowner will enjoy and appreciate for years to come with the intention that the value of the property was also improved.
