Mass Ave Balcony by Heath Outdoor In the lively core of Indianapolis, Heath Outdoor's 'Mass Ave Balcony' transformed a neglected outdoor space into a beautiful oasis in the middle of a busy urban landscape. The balcony was created to be a quiet escape from city life, and to match the architecture of the area. One of the main highlights of this balcony was the installation of durable, high-quality composite decking in a modern style that is easy to maintain. Heath Outdoor executed the design with native plants including ornamental grasses and flowering perennials. These native plants add color to the balcony as well as attract and support local pollinators to connect the space with the surrounding nature. A unique challenge of this design was limited space and addressing water drainage issues. Heath Outdoor ingeniously designed and installed a subtle drainage solution beneath the deck that will manage water runoff and not allow it to pool up which could cause damage to the plants or the deck structure. To maximize use of the balcony, Heath Outdoor designed built-in seating out of reclaimed wood that can provide a gathering spot for family and friends while demonstrating an environmentally friendly approach. The result of this is a spectacular balcony that is both beautiful and functional. The introduction of sustainably sourced green plants and carefully designed living spaces create a beautiful context when the homeowner sips morning coffee or hosts gatherings later in the evening.
