St. Matthews backyard Gut and Rebuild Perfect Earth Landscape LLC. Perfect Earth Landscape LLC transformed this St. Matthews Backyard Renovation into the ultimate outdoor retreat! This included a complete renovation of a family backyard that was rarely used, optimising the function and beauty of the backyard of the home in central Louisville. It started with a consultation where we made sure to listen carefully to our clients who told us they wanted a peaceful area to retreat to but also a place for entertaining. We encountered a number of obstacles, from rough and tough geography to ground that retained too much water due to year-round compacted soil. In order to combat this, we built a refined grading system and included a proper drainage system to create a sustainable landscape system to handle seasonal weather changes. The new design incorporated a lovely balance of hardscaping and softscaping, including a custom stone patio with natural Tennessee flagstone. This patio makes for a wonderful place for family barbeques and evenings spent unwinding. We had native ground cover there already, so we planted some native shrubs and perennials (lavender and coneflowers) around the patio to add to the aesthetics and draw in local pollinators. To instill some peaceful calm, we included a water feature a crisp pondless waterfall, which bubbles over natural stone and gives a tranquil sound. The sound of flowing water adds to the greenery and to the great ambiance of a place you want to stay to more time outside. As you can guess, lighting was a key part of this. Lining the stone walkway and the flower beds is energy-efficient landscape accent lighting that we installed, so that even when the sun goes down, those spaces are still inviting. The finished product was a peaceful fusion of nature and contemporary design, an inviting retreat well beyond anything we hoped for.
