Summary: Wildlife Sanctuary Gardens - West University Place, Houston Moss Landscaping is excited to showcase the Wildlife Sanctuary Gardens ! This exciting landscaping development took place in West University Place, Houston, and was aimed at beautifying the client's property while establishing a refuge for local wildlife. To get things started, our team conducted a site assessment to determine which native plants might be the most successful in the area while also benefiting local species based on their preferred pollen sources. For this garden, we put together a variety of native plants, including Texas wildflowers, ornamental grasses and shrubs, all designed to provide food for birds, butterflies, and beneficial insects during all seasons. Sourcing sustainable materials was also important to the ; we selected reclaimed wood for raised garden beds, and used permeable pavers for drainage and runoff purposes. One of the challenges we faced is that the property was very uneven. One of our skilled landscapers was able to grade the land to achieve slow slopes and terraces while providing visual interest to the garden and managing water and soil in the process. We were also able to install a wildlife pond and water source, complete with native aquatic plants. This is a unique element of the and will support habitat for frogs and dragonflies. The end result is a vibrant and beautiful sanctuary that looks great and works as one. The client now has a beautiful sanctuary that is a peaceful outdoor space for them to enjoy and provide food for local wildlife. The improved the curb appeal of the property, but it has also become a conversation starter for our client and their neighbors. It makes us very happy that this alive space in the backyard is recognized and brings joy to the neighborhood.
