Located within the iconic skyline of Manhattan - and in a transformation from a small, outdoor space into a peaceful escape from the noises of the city. From the start, our team had to figure out how to maximize the small outdoor space that achieved a sense of flow and connecting elements together. The team provided a layered approach to the design, which included vertical gardens for privacy, and secluded areas that create a sense of retreat. Quality materials were employed including sustainable sourced Ipe wood for decking with custom stonework, which added texture and durability. The main feature of the garden is the pinnacle water feature, which was designed to create a calming environment with the sound of some running water. We also utilized plants that provided a balance of beauty, hardiness and low maintenance. The selection of native plants ensured that the garden would be beautiful in all four seasons and provide habitat for surrounding biodiversity. The perennials Echinacea and ornamental grasses mixed in seasonal blooms and provide a wonderful transition to the garden as each bloom unfurls in succession. To mitigate the heat of the urban landscape, we also provided strategically placed shade trees, in addition to a retractable awning to allow our clients to enjoy their garden space on the hottest summer days. The final product is an elegant and sophisticated outdoor retreat that embodies the client’s request for a tranquil escape from city life. The Manhattan Townhouse Garden enhances the overall aesthetic quality and livability of the property. The quality of craftsmanship and attention to detail have resulted in a delighted client who is enjoying their own private oasis, designed for comfort and entertaining.
