About This Project

### Atherton Randy Thueme Design Inc. - Landscape Architecture introduces 'Atherton' a fascinating redevelopment of a private estate in one of California's most exclusive neighborhoods. The extensive outdoor space was designed in a way that is consistent with the home’s architecture while implementing sustainable landscaping techniques. The included a careful selection of native plant species that grow well in the local climate offering a very low maintenance option with water wise practices. A beautiful combination of hardscape and softscape were utilized, including a custom stone patio from local sandstone that creates a lovely spot for family and friends to gather outdoors. The pathways curve through the gardens framed by lush plants and lead people through the property providing a sense of exploration and comfort. One of the main challenges experienced was the varying grades of the site. We utilized terracing to create defined spaces for an edible vegetable garden, an area for meditation and a memorable children’s play space, all while maintaining drainage and the quality of soil. Overall the end product was pleasing, functional and beautiful. A final detail was a well-designed lighting plan to showcase the architecture of the landscape at night turning the garden into a whimsical escape after dark. The clients were ecstatic the outcome lauding the design that they had thought in detail for improving their backyard experience but also their lifestyle. The ‘Atherton’ proved the effort made by Randy Thueme Design Inc. with quality, innovation, and a happy client relationship further solidifying our reputation of being a leader in landscape architecture through the Bay Area.
