About This Project

The Garden View project transformed a cherished early 20th century Colonial Revival home in North Kingstown, RI, into a more functional and inviting space for a busy family of five children. Recognizing the need for a kitchen and mudroom that supported their active lifestyle, the family sought to enhance their home's usability while maintaining its traditional charm. The original layout neglected the stunning yard, leaving the children out of sight during outdoor play. BTGA's innovative design approach addressed these concerns by creating an addition that seamlessly blended with the existing structure. The newly designed eat-in kitchen became the heart of the home, featuring ample counter space and modern appliances while incorporating traditional elements that reflect the house's historical character. Natural light floods the room through large windows that frame views of the beautifully landscaped yard, fostering a connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. The addition of a new back porch and family room further enhances this connection, providing a comfortable gathering area where the family can relax and enjoy each other's company. A thoughtfully designed mudroom, complete with individual cubbies for each child, was introduced to promote organization and efficiency. This space allows the family to manage their belongings effectively, reducing clutter and chaos that often accompanies a household with young children. The choice of materials throughout the project, including classic cabinetry and durable finishes, ensures longevity while maintaining an aesthetically pleasing appearance. The outcome of the Garden View project is a harmonious blend of functionality and style, resulting in a happier, more organized family life. The kitchen now serves as both a workspace and a social hub, reflecting the family's love for cooking and gathering together.
