Tavern Island Retreat: A Haven of Tranquility By Keith E. Simpson Associates, Inc. Set in the heart of a scenic waterfront, Tavern island retreat is evidence of the design imagination and craftsmanship Keith E. Simpson Associates, Inc., brings to its s. This extensive transformation of landscape is a retreat for homeowners in the active communities of Bedford, Greenwich and beyond. With a pleasing mix of native plants and thoughtfully selected hardscape features, the transition between the gardens and the water came together to enhance the surroundings. We used beautiful local stone for the dry-laid walkways, which lead guests through vibrant flower beds of perennials, with animal-friendly colors to experience every season. The hand-built cedar pergola provides a shady retreat decorated with climbing wisteria to add even more fragrance to the outdoor experience. The topography of the island presented some challenges of organizing the natural landscape with the client’s entertainment vision of function and beauty. Our talented designers and horticulturists devised drainage strategies to manage new water flow around the island, so the function, longevity, and sustainability of all elements are now possible. The end product is a stunning landscape that doesn’t just enhance the property’s aesthetic, it creates an oasis for family gatherings and relaxing moments together. The elated clients can now appreciate the custom design of their outdoor space, and experience the calming feeling that ambiance of the space should provide; the thoughtful placement of each plant, the sound of the water, to engage with the beauty.
