About This Project

House on a Hill Perched on a hillside, the Berger Partnership-designed House on a Hill encapsulates everything landscape design can hope to be hardscape and softscape molding an inhospitable site into a beautiful outdoor refuge. Berger Partnership took on this ambitious , along with serving the communities of Bainbridge Island, Bellevue, Medina, Mercer Island, Seattle, and Yarrow Point with a determination towards quality and innovation. This landscape integrates droughttolerant planting material, selected for its beauty and adaptability. To create a lush yet low-maintenance house, it was filled with plants that are drought-tolerant, such as fragrant lavender and ornamental grasses. Design features also include an elegant stone terrace made of local granite that creates an enduring surface that works well in nature. This meant that we ran into several challenges, such as designing for the steep slope of the property where we needed to ensure adequate erosion control with the unsightly features masking the beauty of the site. A series of retaining walls built from reclaimed woods and natural stones by Berger Partnership was carefully crafted for stability and functionality in outdoor areas. The home emerges today as a picturesque delight, combining the architecture at its finest with a peaceful retreat for its owners. A gently gurgling water feature provides ambient sound in one corner of the garden, with paths that are both straight and winding, filled with custom paths throughout. The result was a beautiful outdoor dining space with a fire pit, a perfect backdrop for entertaining with lovely views. The end product satisfied the client completely, and the homeowners were thrilled with the result, giving high marks to Berger Partnership for their eye during execution and ability to fulfill their vision.
