About This Project

Nature Play for the Modern Family LandCurrent Landscape Architects completed the "Nature Play for the Modern Family", a unique landscaping that connects families in the Portland Metro Area, including Aloha, Beaverton, Vancouver, and surrounding cities, to nature, and encourages that sense of exploration in the community. This took a traditional backyard and created a nature play environment with natural landscapes for children and adults to experience. It included a natural play area using local boulders, logs, and native plants to provide a naturalistic aesthetic as well as encourage biodiversity in the yard. The design included a winding path of permeable pavers that allows water to filter through and takes you through the space. We built the play areas with durable, sustainable material that can withstand the Pacific Northwest weather, giving longevity to the space with minimal maintenance. We aimed to create a fun play space that provided safety and adventure while allowing for creative play experiences. To do this, we introduced various climbing structures out of sustainable timber for appropriate ages, along with sensory gardens that provided engagement through touch, colors, and scents in children's landscape experience. The final product is an engaging outdoor oasis that brought joy to the client that blended play with nature alongside inviting space to relax include socializing. The outcome was a beautiful functioning landscape that met the needs of a modern family while also diving into the opportunity to develop an appreciation of nature.
