Rich in functional and aesthetic value, this generous courtyard overhaul, by Aaron Budds, serves as an effortless yet appealing outdoor retreat that contributes to the beauty of the property. It all started with a full design consultation working with the homeowners to find out what they had in mind for the courtyard. In the tours of potential homes available, the authors had identified homes that placed an emphasis on the invisible benefits of the create the homea kitchen designed around meal prep that incorporated the zonein the challenge of a sloped terrain that required tiered landscaping to both provide visual interest but also accomplish effective drainage and access. Using top quality, locally sourced materials that are in keeping with the local landscape, we laid natural stone pavers throughout the garden for the walkways, as well as for the seating areas, to ensure durability without compromising the beauty and functionality of the space. The courtyard includes an immaculately curated assortment of native vegetation and seasonal flowers, hand-selected for their aesthetics and diligence. The design also includes a large custom fire pit area surrounded by natural boulders where family and friends can enjoy time together. Throngs of green from ornamental grasses to carefully curated shrubs, layered over a vintage stone and timber box to create texture, encapsulates the property below with layers of privacy, making home an oasis. The design also had to incorporate a number of mature trees already on site which had to be retained; we made the most of these great existing trees by strategically lighting them and introducing trees and other plantings that complemented them. This creates an inviting and well-lit atmosphere used throughout the day and into the night, allowing outdoor use anytime. After finishing the Courtyard - Bender's Landing, our clients were beyond excited to receive such an amazing outdoor space which matched their lifestyle perfectly. Every inch of this courtyard reflects the focus on quality craftsmanship, and its a real treat for them to come home to.
