This landscape design functions as a dynamic educational space that connects nature and learning, right in the heart of New Orleans. We designed this outdoor space with the intention of inspiring students and teachers, incorporating diverse types of landscaping for engaging and hands-on learning while nurturing ecological principles. Interactive native plant gardens, sensory pathways and shaded seating areas constructed from sustainable materials are all included in the . Curvy paths made of quality stone pavers meander through the landscape, guiding students along towards local plant species selected for acclimating to the climate in the area to establish a sustainable ecosystem. We included raised garden beds for students to physically plant and recognize the basic concepts of gardening. For example, the site had significant topographical changes which we had to address carefully in order to guarantee that the grades function appropriately for drainage and accessibility. We had crews working around the clock, implementing all sorts of landscaping technology to convert the area into an integrated, usable learning environment. We also worked directly with educators to create features that support their curriculum, balancing aesthetics with function in the space. The end product is a perfect union of art and usability, which satisfies the client and will be a precedent for outdoor learning spaces in the future. The marriage between quality craftsmanship and attention to detail makes the Outdoor Classroom a treasured community space.
