This bold garden and masonry was developed to elevate the outdoor living experience for our discerning client looking to create an oasis comprised of beauty and versatility. It showcased a sophisticated design of native plant material selected for tough plant characteristics and seasonal interest. An array of perennial flowering plants, ornamental grasses, and flowering shrubs were planted to provide continuous color throughout the year. Staying true to the natural character of the site, locally sourced stone was used for the retaining walls and pathways for durability and rustic appeal. Working specifically with the slope of the site was a major challenge because we had to be able to support the drainage of the rainwater while still conserving a visual composition. We use timber to tastefully construct terraced garden beds which a) valiant visual appeal and b) extra planting space and c) existing drainage concerns. The final composition was then a meticulously created visual tapestry that made the client come to happy emotional condition. A bluestone patio serves as the centerpiece of the garden and provides ample space for entertaining and lounging. It is enclosed by a low-sheared hedge, which allows others to see a guest but does not allow enough height to see any more than that; after all, this is the place one should come to escape some of the everyday stresses of life. To make the space more functional and attractive to family and friends throughout the year, custom masonry features were designed, including a fire pit and seating walls. This turned out to be amazing and left the client with an outdoor space that is truly a garden retreat. The detail, quality materials, and design decisions on this demonstrated the work of Donald Pell - Gardens, and created a magical garden space that the client will enjoy for many years to come.
