Giving its previous owners the ability to seamlessly integrate the homes architecture within its setting, this seamlessly creates flow between indoor and outdoor living spaces. This design showcases a beautiful collection of local and native plantings, all chosen to be compatible with the local climate and require minimal disturbance to the ecosystem. Ferns, wildflowers and ornamental grasses were used to restate the natural character of the lakeside setting, and granite boulders and river stones were delicately positioned to create naturalistic pathways and informal seating arrangements. Permeable paving materials were combined to provide a functional yet aesthetically pleasing driveway that serves to mitigate drainage issues by allowing rainwater to drain through the earth instead of pooling on the hard landscape surface. The changes in elevation across the site was one of the major challenges of this . Broadhurst + Associates did just this, utilising terraced gardens and retaining walls for both structural stabilization and stunning levels of diverse foliage. The terraces above also provide breathtaking views over the Lake and forests inviting nature in. The end result is a beautiful landscape with a gentle water feature that offers soothing sounds to add to the peaceful environment.
