MIDCENTURY RESIDENCE BY BROADHURST + ASSOCIATES; #M_BW_M_IDH; #M_XL_L_IDH; #L_XL_L_IDH Nestled within the heart of Washington State, this , the MidCentury Residence, demonstrates an amazing combination of modern structure and classic landscape sensibilities by Broadhurst + Associates. The stunning metamorphosis captures the spirit of mid-century architecture with a palette of native plants, natural resources and design moves. The consisted of a careful redesign of the outdoor spaces, including an amazing and locally sourced stone and reclaimed wood hardscape elements. The massive patio, complete with stylish geometric pavers, makes for a great gathering area on its own and extends the distance between the indoor and outdoor living spaces. The nature of the work involved is complex and one of the biggest hurdle encountered during this is that the site is really steep, that is why some specific terracing solutions had to be used which allows draining the water and at the same time having accessibility. Broadhurst + Associates expertly incorporated terraced garden beds that added beauty while showcasing a variety of drought resistant vegetative species. These carefully selected plants help support biodiversity and are region-appropriate, thus reducing the amount of water needed; both of which match the sustainability objectives. The water feature, central to the landscape, then mirrors the lines of the architecture of the residence, bringing harmony to the landscape and a sense of ambiance that soothes the senses. To surround this feature, ornamental grasses and perennnial plantings have been designed to bring year-round interest, with seasonal blooms reminiscent of mid-century gardens. The end product is a stunning landscape that enhances the residence, but is also what the client hoped for. This retreat, a beautiful balance of practical outdoor living spaces with nature, becomes a place of harmony and peace with the richness of an ever-changing landscape.
