Muttontown Driveway and Planting

Muttontown Driveway and Planting by Morell Landscape Associates Morell Landscape Associates just completed the Muttontown Driveway and Planting , converting a suburban home into a beautiful oasis that excels in both function and form. Muttontown is a lovely neighborhood, but the presented several challenges for the design process, including sloping land and drainage issues, which we helped the homeowner resolve with careful planning and contemporary design. First, we installed a durable, permeable paver driveway that improves the property’s curb appeal while providing efficient chassis for water drainage after a rain (no pooling!). The driveway consists of an attractive blend of natural stone and a warm, tones brick that presents an inviting front entrance. We created a beautiful planting space immediately adjacent to the driveway that features a significant amount of native shrubs and perennial flowers to showcase the design throughout the year with color and texture. The shrubs included Hydrangeas and Ornamental (non-native) grasses, to complement native perennials (that flower) couple of bright day lilies, among other things. We considered the extreme heat of the summer and cold winter months on Long Island and selected long-lasting and low-maintenance plant material developed for this particular climate. We knowing we were asked to work around/reuse the existing older trees/mature foliage surrounding the area and yet still provide safe access to the driveway. Using our design aesthetic we create tiered flower beds that not only add interest to the eye, but create a natural transition from the driveway area into the garden beds. Overall, we created a beautiful landscape design that reflects the personality of the homeowners while improving the value of the overall property. The homeowners were delighted with the final and commented on the quality of Morell’s work to consider the extent and seamless integration of hardscape and softscape practices.
