About This Project

Ray's Restaurants - Ray's on the River Land Architect Studio is excited to unveil a major landscaping renovation for Ray's on the River, a fine dining restaurant along the beautiful banks of the Chattahoochee River that serves the neighborhoods of Atlanta, Buckhead, Sandy Springs and beyond. Our goal was to introduce attractive outdoor space that would improve the dining experience while blending into the site and nature! The design was driven by the desire to introduce greenery, hardscaping, usable outdoor dining, and natural elements. Among many plants and trees used, ferns, river birch, and dogwoods were native species that offered dramatically beautiful landscapes as well as significant environmental sustainability. The employment of permeable pavers along walkways allowed us to manage stormwater during heavy rain events, which were a concern because the site had access to the river and managed drainage challenges because of that. One key aspect of the landscape is the water feature, which was designed to look and feel like a gentle river stream. It is an enticing and tranquil addition for diners to enjoy while they are eating. We had a challenge of creating an overall design that considered the aesthetics of the restaurant architecture, the overall complexity of the elevated site, and the aesthetics of the riverbank in nature. Strategic planning and successful implementation helped us overcome these challenges to create a landscape that enchants patrons to stay and enjoy meals outside! In the end, the landscaping is a beautiful oasis of lush foliage that improves the aesthetics of Ray's on the River, and several diners, and had further impact beyond "great food" after dinner. The client was thrilled with the end result and appreciated our team's ability to bring their vision to reality. Diners are now able to enjoy their fine meals while the overall environment brags a variety of color and textures which becomes a highlight of coming to Ray's on the River. We are proud to have contributed to a true gem of a restaurant in the heart of the community.
