The Rosemont Remodel is a stunning transformation of an outdated cape situated just off the water in downtown Kennebunkport, Maine. This project presented a unique challenge due to the building's original layout and its inability to expand further because of existing setbacks. The goal was to create a contemporary, open space that maximizes the spectacular views of the water, which were previously nonexistent. Kaplan Thompson Architects rose to the occasion by designing a groundbreaking renovation that involved a complete gut rehab of the existing structure. A significant portion of the second floor was removed, along with all walls leading to the attic, resulting in a remarkable three-story open space. This innovative approach not only enhanced the flow of the interior but also introduced an abundance of natural light, transforming the formerly claustrophobic environment into a bright and airy living area. The highlight of the design is the double-story glass expanse that faces south, effectively framing the picturesque views of the water while allowing for seamless indoor-outdoor living.
