Summary: Blue Stone Terrace by Outdoor Lifestyles Located in the scenic grounds of Old Saybrook, ‘Blue Stone Terrace’ pays tribute to the beauty and craftsmanship produced by Outdoor Lifestyles. This landscaping seamlessly transitions from nature to formal outdoor living, juxtaposing nature’s beauty within the context of the surrounding environment. Blue Stone Terrace begins with a beautiful terrace made with an exceptional blue stone; a durable natural stone which features stunning hues from dark blues to light grey. The use of natural stone provides the continuity of space between areas while also offering a distinct surface across the outdoor area and functions well alongside the residential yard. The site posed challenges of sloped grading along with existing drainage issues. The Outdoor Lifestyles team focused on resolving these issues with care and consideration by creating a drainage system that resolved water flow and functioned as a sufficient safeguard for landscaping. This attention to detail is also what preserves the integrity of the job to not only be aesthetically pleasing but also entirely functional and sustainable. Features of Blue Stone Terrace include custom seating areas meant to maximize spectacular views of the surrounding gardens and helpful placement of accent lighting for entertaining in the evening and at night. The native plantings surrounding the terrace were purposely chosen for seasonal interest and resilience, which adds to the overall composition of the space. The final exceeded the client’s expectations of an outdoor escape from the household while providing a seamless and convenient space for the client to entertain and relax outdoors.
