Enhancing the 'Watch Hill' property through Outdoor Lifestyles Situated in the quaint coastal town of Old Saybrook, the 'Watch Hill' landscaping by Outdoor Lifestyles provides a perfect fusion of natural beauty and outdoor living design. Our job, as professional landscape designers, was to transform a sloped and uneven site into a stunning multi-leveled garden oasis that adds beauty to the home while providing room for family and friends to relax and enjoy time together. To achieve this outcome we used quality hardscaping materials including native stone for the retaining walls, as they complement the existing site and are aesthetically pleasing, durable, and structural. The unique characteristics of the sloped site also created opportunities for some imaginative design, such as tiered gardens that allow for color beds and foliage to flourish together. We utilized heat and drought-resistant plants to minimize maintenance for the homeowners as they will need little to no care with similar seasonal aesthetics near the coastal waterfront. As a main feature of the Watch Hill , we created a beautiful patio space using pavers that are compatible with natural surroundings and the condition of the site. This unique space gives the homeowner an opportunity to gather family and friends reminisce with great conversations around the built-in outdoor fire pit, even on chilly evenings and eventually when sunset arrives. Challenges came to the forefront with the site’s drainage issues, but we were able to address this with a comprehensive drainage system that solved those issues effectively and sustainably, all while protecting the landscape. In the end, this home is now, or will be, a beautiful outdoor oasis and retreat that met the vision of the homeowner while also showcasing Outdoor Lifestyles high standards for craftsmanship, design, and professionalism. Ultimately, the clients were pleased with their new outdoor living space that elevated their home and provided them with an opportunity to reconnect with nature.
