During our first visit, we identified several areas to address such as old landscape items, and an unappealing water feature that simply sat there with no movement or sound. The client wanted a sanctuary where you could hear and see water, and lush plantings as you stepped away from the hustle and bustle of life. We used native California plants to keep the design sustainable notable ones include California poppies, lavender, and colorful succulents that will grow well with little care and also invite helpful wildlife. The focal point in this renovation is a beautiful, multi-tiered water feature that gently cascades water, and creates a peaceful ambiance. Built with locally sourced stone, the water element allows it to blend seamlessly with Mother Nature, while the lighting showcases it at night. One of the challenges was implementing this feature in the context of the existing landscape without disturbing existing trees and shrubs. The new design has been integrated within the context of the existing terrain; together, the strategy was carefully devised and crafted. In our effort to improve accessibility and veins of aesthetic beauty, we implemented permeable paver pathways that encourage passing rain to drain naturally into the earth, while providing a durable surface for foot traffic. The pathways take you to different seating layouts, placing the family and guests in the perfect position to sit back relax, and take in the peaceful scenery of the garden. The outcome is a stunning landscape that not only fulfills but goes above and beyond the client expectations. Thoughtful plant choices and innovative water features, along with sustainable practices, turned the Lafayette garden into a livable, breathing space, whether the family was in party mode or someone was seeking solace.
