Blue Stone Completed By: Plantswoman Design Service Areas: Bainbridge Island, Bremerton, Poulsbo, Rollingbay, Seattle, Silverdale, Southworth, Kingston Plantswoman Design proudly unveils the Blue Stone , an outdoor living space to enjoy nature in the Pacific Northwest. We designed and constructed an exposed sloped backyard into a beautiful multi-functional space to improve the aesthetics of the outdoor environment and work effortlessly with the existing landscape. The focus of the space is a natural blue stone patio that we installed as a beautiful but extremely solid gathering area. The blue stone served as an attractive mature finish but also stood up to the increased weather variability in the region. To improve biodiversity and create low-maintenance options for planting, we filled the area surrounding the blue stone with a combination of native plants without requiring moisture or excess irrigation to flourish. To deal with erosion from the slope, we constructed and designed terraced garden beds to help keep the soil intact and improve planting spaces in the yard. All using local stone and reusing existing material in the backyard, we stepped down. From the house to create an extraordinarily beautiful and seamless transition from each level in the yard; while also vastly improving aesthetics and lowering maintenance space. During the design process, we used a color palette containing plants that blossomed during different times of the year but all live well together. To finish off the design, we highlighted the stonework and plants using ambient light, perfectly balanced throughout the space to illuminate all areas while creating a beautiful soft glow atmosphere in the evenings. The Blue Stone 's process from design to craftsmanship and attention to detail exemplifies Plantswoman Design. The client called and excitedly shared and bragged on how the space exceeded their expectations for outdoor gathering with family and friends, providing countless cherished memories. The design's process became an upgrade in both the home value and in their daily lives by providing them this exceptional outdoor accessible gathering space to nature and connect indoors and out.
