About This Project

Summary: Hillside Retreat by Wildwood Landscapes + Design The 'Hillside Retreat' by Wildwood Landscapes + Design is located in the beautiful hills of the Bay Area, which transformed a steeply sloped underutilized slope into a spectacular outdoor living space for the homeowners. Located between Albany in San Francisco, we made the most of the site's unique topography, climate, and other challenges to create a combination of functionality and beauty. The consists of a series of terraced gardens made from locally sourced stones that would not only be appropriate to the mixture of the natural landscape but also stabilize the hillside. Each terrace features drought tolerant plants that were carefully selected not only for their resilience, but for their splashes of color, keeping in mind maintenance and sustainability. We designed and installed a custom stone pathway that winds its way through the garden, enticing visitors to explore each tier of plantings. One of the most significant challenges we faced was to address the erosion potential of the hillside. Our team created and installed an elaborate drainage system encased in the landscape to divert the flow of water and protect the terraces. Additionally, we placed boulders, native grasses and other materials that further stabilized the soil while adding to the natural aesthetics of the surrounding environment. Ultimately the was transformed into a beautiful retreat for the homeowners with spectacular views all around. Our diligence and attention to detail with craftsmanship and commitment to environmentally friendly practices delighted the clients and made them proud of their new retreat. The 'Hillside Retreat' stands true to Wildwood Landscapes + Design's mission to enhance outdoor space and being good stewards of the environment by bringing beauty and sustainability of outdoor living spaces throughout the Bay Area.
