Highlands Modern by C&H Landscaping C&H Landscaping is proud to present the 'Highlands Modern' landscaping located in the center of Highlands Ranch. The represents the ideal blend of modern design with a native palette that embraces sustainability. The purpose of the was to convert a boring suburban garden into a beautiful outdoor retreat that represents the contemporary lifestyle of the clients while respecting the original landscape. Covering a total area of over 3,000 square feet, the landscape is composed of a constellation of plantings that create a vibrant year-round palette while being water and maintenance conscious. A multi-tiered stone terrace was built out of locally-sourced sandstone, offering an abundance of seating options, however, it also provides movement between different levels of the yard. One of the larger challenges of this was the slope of the site; C&H Landscaping planned for the grade of the site to facilitate stability and visual beauty. Our team was able to navigate this challenge using intelligent drainage patterns and retaining walls to accomplish success. While these patterns helped with replacement value, they also became an artistic component of the design. Alongside the hardscapes of the yard, an outdoor fire pit was integrated with a complement of modern seating. This design element promotes indoor/outdoor living by acting as an inviting hearth that generates a family gathering. The clients also wanted LED lighting installed throughout the landscape to safely enable night time mobility; landscape lighting becomes even more useful with the addition of a gathering space. In the end, the plans all worked together to maximize a lawn area as the final piece with ornamental grasses and some boulders to create a natural presentation instead of a rigid feeling. Overall, the leads to a landscape that captures and attaches formality with modern flair that more than met the clients expectations.
