The "Colorful Spaces for the Grandkids" project transformed a vacation home in Charlestown, Rhode Island, which had been stuck in the aesthetic of the early 1990s. The design challenge was to create vibrant, imaginative spaces that would delight the client's grandchildren while seamlessly integrating a timeless appeal that reflects the client's eclectic style preferences. The renovation began in 2020 with a budget ranging from $100,001 to $150,000, and the outcome is a stunning example of modern design meeting playful creativity. Each room was carefully considered to encourage exploration and relaxation. The design team selected a palette filled with bright colors and dynamic patterns, evoking a sense of joy and adventure. Custom wallpaper featuring whimsical motifs adorned the walls, while playful textiles in bold hues were used for cushions and upholstery, creating inviting seating areas for both play and rest. The living spaces were reimagined to incorporate multifunctional furniture, ensuring there was ample room for activities, games, and family gatherings. High-quality materials were prioritized throughout the project, emphasizing durability and ease of maintenance, essential for a vacation home frequented by children.
