Located along a beautiful stretch of coastline, Austin Ganim Landscape Design, LLC asked the question: what does a true eco-friendly landscape look like? This balances beauty with environmental performance for clients anywhere from Bridgeport to Old Lyme. The sought to develop a sustainable shoreland that achieved heightened aesthetic appeal of the waterfront, reduced the risk of erosive processes, and provided habitat for local biota. To accomplish this we established multiple coastal adapted species of native plants sods such as salty tolerant grasses and flowering perennial types. They were deliberately placed around to act as a buffer, which reduce the waves and enhance sediment stabilization. The faced many challenges, especially with dealing with existing erosion and invasive species on site which can compromise the integrity of the shoreline ecosystem. With meticulous planning and thorough site analysis, invasive plants were eradicated and a stratified planting design was implemented. This involved the immediate use of coir logs and biodegradable erosion control mats to temporarily stabilize the area while the native plants developed their root systems. The end result was a beautiful renovation that our client were immensely pleased with, and an invaluable improvement for the ecological health of the landscape. This area will not only be home to a beautiful natural landscape but also provides essential habitat for the local wildlife to promote sustenance for the area.
