The began with a full design consultation to work closely with the homeowner in understanding their ideas and preferences. The main features of the were the fully built flower beds that frame the screened-in porch. We created an assortment of native perennials and annuals for color and beauty year-round and not too high maintenance, while also bringing together daylilies, salvia, and echinacea for rich colors and ornamental grasses for backbone and greenery. Additionally, we used natural stone edging to finish the beds. Originally, the goal was to define the beds in a rustic way, but the addition of a natural stone edge gives the area character and rustic charm. The owner expressed interest in using quality, organic materials to the finished product, which resulted in us selecting locally-sourced river rock ground cover and organic mulch as the main materials. There was a substantial slope surrounding the screened-in porch that needed to be managed, so our construction team designed terraced beds to manage the slope. The terraced beds not only addressed the slope but offered the homeowner a variety of heights and forms of plantings. The terraced beds also helped with drainage and offered more landscaping interest on all sides. All parts of the final product were outstanding and looked like they belonged with the natural surroundings. More importantly, the new space provided a peaceful area allowing the homeowner a spot to relax anytime, add another space to entertain, and showcase extraordinary native plants. All residents now enjoy the additional bright colors and rich foliage from the flower beds creating a backdrop for outdoor living through every season. The client remarked in laughter, "As far as the outdoor , it has transformed our outdoor living environment."
