About This Project

Manhattan Terrace NY Plantings Garden Design has blown me away with design work screened within an ultra-urban, Manhattan sun-scape of rooftops the 'Manhattan Terrace' artfully creates room to breathe and luxuriate in the city. Covering an area of more than 1,500 square feet of this terrace, it offers a great balance between hardscape and softscape where both aesthetic and functional elements are integrated beautifully. This features stunning material, depicted in sustainable ipe wood decking that adds warmth, permanence while high-end bluestone pavers bring with it sophistication. Along with the terrace, we facilitated a personalized pergola, draped in climbing wisteria, which not only boosts shade, but makes for a visual anchor and play on the vertical axis of the terrace itself. The compact nature of the terrace also created a dilemma for its accessibility because the owners wanted to be able to use the outdoor space without interruption whilst ensuring that their neighbours could still enjoy their own outdoor areas in peace, so our team decided to use dense evergreen screening plants, such as tall Italian cypress and viburnum, to create a buffer to the terrace; allowing for minimal disturbance from hemmed-in city living, whilst also providing greenery even over the cold, dreary winter months. We also incorporated several tiers of planting beds with annuals and perennials to create a colorful terrace year around. A high-tech irrigation system ensures the plants receive the care they need while still conserving water, reflecting our commitment to sustainability. And the end product is slowly but surely becoming a stunning retreat for rest and entertaining our clients are overjoyed.
