Set on a tricky flag lot, this large-scale outdoor sanctuary attached to the back of the residence on the site, masterfully balances the functional & the beautiful. This transformation was primarily directed towards overcoming the singular topographical challenges that the flag lot form presents. We employed terracing to break the site up into separate zones for gardening, resting, and socialising. A beautiful local stone path meanders through the gardens which are planted mostly with native plants that require minimal irrigation while complementing the natural beauty of the landscape. Using durable materials, we chose durable environmentally friendly pavers for the patio area to entertain guests as well as for family gatherings. However we have used weather-resistant timber for the custom built seating areas which blends into the natural environment but also lasts. At the centre of the landscape, a tranquil water feature acts as the key feature of the home landscape providing soothing sounds, while also designed to attract local wildlife. The came with its own set of challenges, from site drainage to the somewhat tricky situation of ensuring neighbours did not experience a completely unencumbered view of neighbouring properties but our experienced team worked through every obstacle in their path. When carefully designed, with an abundance of screening plants, it can create a sanctuary-like environment that is private yet will still draw you out of the house. The transformation of the Flag Lot has our clients absolutely thrilled with the final outcome.
