Modern Home by Serquis + Associates Landscape Architecture Perched on the beautiful landscapes of Santa Fe is a substation for a contemporary outdoor living space, the 'Modern Home' landscape design by the firm of Serquis + Associates Landscape Architecture. The home is located in the Eldorado community, which is a thriving neighborhood in Santa Fe, and marries modern design with the natural beauty of the Southwest. This involved converting a traditional residential yard into a delightful, functional outdoor living space that complements the home's contemporary architecture. Key features of the include a carefully planned hardscape, with locally quarried flagstone pavers that lead the visitor into and across the property, as well as custom concrete patio spaces for entertaining and relaxing outdoors. The water feature adds another dimension to the sensory experience of the , with a small pond and waterfall that invite local wildlife while constructing an ecosystem. Serquis + Associates experienced some challenges, including site topography and limitations of an irrigation system. These challenges did not stop the team, as they implemented a drainage plan and an irrigation system that conserves water, and supports the selection of lush plants. The planting palette was planned thoughtfully, with a strong focus on desert marigolds, lavender, and ornamental grasses to conserve water while encouraging wildlife and supporting environmental diversity and sustainability. The design also incorporated lighting to enhance architectural features of the home while inviting evening use of the outdoor space. Overall, this landscape resulted in a breathtaking landscape that meets the desires of the client visually, as well as the way of life, reinforcing the firm's dedication to quality and innovation. The client was ecstatic with their newly designed outdoor space of contemporary references, and the desert scenery of New Mexico and the natural environment were alive and well in an outdoor living space.
