About This Project

Blending into Nature Serquis + Associates Landscape Architecture present a thoughtfully constructed landscape d ‘Blending into Nature’ that draws on the spectacular natural surroundings of Northern New Mexico. Set in the dramatic and beautiful areas of Santa Fe, as well as surrounding communities including Eldorado, Tesuque, and Taos, this showcases our ability to combine art and the surrounding context of the landscape, which is a foundational tenet of our profession. The design showcases a mix of native plantings, including wildflowers and shrubs that have character, resilience, and ecological benefits while adapting to their environment, as well as supporting the local wildlife. Sustainable techniques and materials were incorporated, including: local stone for terracing; local wood for pathways; and other materials that blend into the surrounding organic landscape. Our design incorporates a variety of topography and rocky terrain that we responsibly tackled with several grading techniques, in addition to simple retaining walls that provide stabilized function and aesthetic interest. The considered water usage in a meaningful way, using a sophisticated drip irrigation system that simply and effectively supported the lush plantings while conserving waste. It includes pathways that wind through the landscapes inviting engagement and exploration while connecting areas of meditation, gathering areas, and productive gardens that support habit and engage the senses. The final landscape is a striking outdoor environment that echoes beauty while serving as a testament to the level of craftsmanship that the owner was assured. The satisfied client can now enjoy a peaceful retreat space, and as intended, further the owner’s connection to nature, with the aptly titled, ‘Blending into Nature’. The progress demonstrates how landscape architecture can improve communities and provide a stronger contribution to the experience of the natural landscape.
