Working with various clients from Aliso Viejo to Santa Barbara, this landscape was designed with careful attention to the traditional Asian experience while also closely collaborating with the surroundings. The main focal point of this extraordinary backyard is a beautifully constructed koi pond with a top-of-the-line filtration system with a small waterfall to create a calming sound. The edges of the pond are framed with carefully and organically selected stones and pebbles to create a feeling of being surrounded by the foliage. Water lily and lotus flowers surround the pond, creating bursts of color in the aquatic habitat. The design has many , such as the multiple stepping stones to a traditional tea house that was built with sustainably sourced bamboo and luxurious mahogany for a comfortable seating area. The tea house becomes a calming retreat for the clients that also accommodates a perfect view of the pond and its entertaining activities. Japanese Maples, azaleas, and bamboo were used and pair nicely with the color palette and offer native wildlife a food source while adding to diversity of habitat. For this , we encountered some obstacles as there were high and low points on the site and some drainage concerns that needed to be addressed. My Garden worked with creative site solutions to create a level base as it relates to the design while keeping the garden sustainable with longevity. The ended with an alluring combination of nature elements and constructed features that turned out to be a thrill for our clients.
