Job Description: Essex Vegetable Garden by Outdoor Lifestyles Outdoor Lifestyles is excited to present the Essex Vegetable Garden, a custom landscaping job that converts someone's simple backyard into a thriving, sustainable paradise. Located in beautiful Essex, this is a reflection of our love for quality, creativity, and ecological stewardship. Our vision for the garden was to create a practical space that is also beautiful to look at. We utilized locally sourced cedar wood to create raised planting beds that would last and look organic. Each of the planting beds is made of high-quality compost to provide necessary nutrients to the vegetables, including heirloom tomatoes, a rainbow of peppers, and leafy greens. The garden was organized carefully to promote sunlight exposure, and airflow through the beds with the hope of a bountiful harvest. During construction we were also challenged by the land on the site that sloped unevenly. We came up with creative solutions to resolve these drainage issues and to make sure the soil and planting beds remained stable. The team used a combination of terracing and stone pathways to manage access and stability, while assuring against soil erosion. The stone was reclaimed granite a get a rustic look while being purposeful in guiding the gardener through the landscape. A combination of native flowering plants and herbs were added to enhance the garden. This provides a landscape for pollinators, introduces interest in color, and attracts insects to the immediate landscape. Adding diversity to the site also increases productivity while creating a resilient ecosystem. We created an opportunity for vertical interest in the garden through trellises made of wrought iron. The beauty of the vegetable garden is stunning but what is more impressive is the functionality of the final product; it was not only what the client envisioned, but exceeded his expectations! The client was ecstatic with the final product. The seamless combination of functionality and beauty is one of our proudest accomplishments.
