About This Project

Information: Woodland Bridge by Outdoor Lifestyles Outdoor Lifestyles' Woodland Bridge located in the landscapes of Old Saybrook is the perfect synthesis of nature and craftsmanship. The began with the end goal of creating a welcoming outdoor area that joined the client's garden to a wooded area. To facilitate this connection, our team designed and built a custom wooden bridge that spans across a gently flowing stream, which can be appreciated in both functional and craftsmanship values. The bridge was made from sustainably sourced cedar, with railings and curves designed to be appealing while also durable. Natural stone pavers extend from the entrance to the bridge area and create a welcoming path that draws guests in to explore, before entering the woodland landscape. One of the challenges we faced in creating the bridge and path was the downward slope of the site. This required some creativity and methods to maintain safety of the bridge while enabling guests to access an area when the bridge itself would not have afforded access. The team effectively graded the path and stepped the bridge for an aesthetically pleasing appearance and stabilizing the sturdiness of the bridge. We included native plantings to the pathway as an added layer of erosion control and to promote wildlife and biodiversity. The end product culminated in a beautiful outdoor experience that the client and visiting friends and family will also enjoy. The Woodland Bridge not only acts as a passage over a stream, but also as a focal point for the garden, a landscape moment that celebrates nature and craftsmanship.
