Located on a vibrant working waterfront, this creates an outdoor environment to engage visitors while producing a positive visual impact to enhance the overall aesthetics and health of the area. Our team researched and developed a landscape plan that integrates these features, as well as incorporates sustainable native plants that thrive in the existing local climate and encourage pollinators. Two palettes enhance the design, including ornamental grasses and flowering perennials, and a lush tree canopy provides shade and enlivens the outdoor environment. Additionally, porous pavement systems designed for walkways minimize runoff and promote better drainage systems while continuing to integrate visual balance to the square. Unique seating elements are made of wood and stone, sustainably sourced from local artisans, to create spots for visitors to rest and enjoy the views of the Bay. Low-maintenance irrigation systems further contribute to sustainability and ensure that the landscape continues to look stunning and visually appealing while using limited water resources. While completing the , San Francisco Green Spaces had to navigate coordination with regulatory agencies and logistics while engaged in a busy and accessible area in the Bay. Our team considered how to operate while causing minimal disruption to seasonal retail businesses and visitors. In the end, the work San Francisco Green Spaces accomplished proven to be a successful and well-landscaped Jack London Square that contributes to its functionality and establishes an engaged community space. The client was very pleased with the work and complimented the dual interest of creating an area that has a natural aesthetic while exhibiting urban design to create a living space that has both visual appeal and is ecocentric for locals and tourists to gather.
